This piece was written for a class on Eighteenth Century British Literature. We were asked to choose one of our reading assignments, and write in its style. I chose The Rape of The Lock, a poem by Alexander Pope. Pope’s poem is a mock-epic, a silly piece written to resemble classical epics like Homer’s Iliad. The Rape of The Lock is a campy satire that pokes fun at aristocratic vanity. My piece takes a more feminist angle and concerns itself with social media influencers, our modern day aristocracy.
